Where the Bahamas Shows You Its Best Day

There's a small island where the water turns clear as glass and the sand stays warm underfoot. A lighthouse marks its point, palms lean into the breeze and the hours pass gently. You come for a day and you leave with the kind of Bahamian day you'll be telling people about for years.

Your Day at Pearl Island

This is the island giving you its very best, from the first step off the boat to the last wave goodbye. Times and inclusions depend on the experience you choose.

Arrival
Step off, breathe out The catamaran eases in, a welcome drink finds your hand, and the sand is underfoot before you've finished it. Lockers, showers and shade are all a short walk away.
Morning
Snorkel the reef Follow a guide out to the reef, a short swim from shore. Parrotfish, sergeant majors and sea fans drift past in water clear all the way to the bottom.
Midday
Traditional Bahamian lunch Fried grouper, fried rice, water and sweet tea, cooked on the island and carried out under the palms.
Afternoon
Meet the swimming pigs The Bahamas most photographed residents paddle out to say hello. After that it's kayaks, paddleboards or a lounger with your name on it.

Fun facts

A Few Things You Didn't Know

1
Visible from Space The water around the Bahamas is so clear that astronauts can see the islands from space, bright turquoise smudges in the dark Atlantic. Up close, the same water surrounds Pearl Island, clear enough to watch fish drift past your feet.
2
Local Celebrities The Bahamas' famous swimming pigs are proper local celebrities. Nobody quite agrees how they got to the islands, but they've been paddling out to greet visitors for decades, and Pearl Island runs its own excursion to meet them.
3
700 Islands, 30 Inhabited There are around 700 islands in the Bahamas and only about 30 have people on them. The rest belong to the birds, the iguanas and the odd swimming pig.
4
Everyone's on One Island Nassau sits on an island called New Providence that ranks only 11th in size, yet somehow squeezes in about 70 percent of the whole country's population. Everyone wants to be near the good beaches.
5
The Reef at Your Feet Pearl Island's coral reef is barely 50 feet from the sand, so close you can snorkel straight off the beach. No boat, no long swim, just fins, a mask and a face full of parrotfish.
6
One Rum Punch Away From Nassau, Pearl Island is a 25-minute catamaran ride, roughly the time it takes to finish a rum punch. A short hop off Paradise Island, and you're on a private slice of the Bahamas.
